Albuquerque Pridefest 2025

Albuquerque Pridefest, established in 1976, is one of the longest-running Pride celebrations in the United States. The inaugural event saw about 25 individuals marching from Morningside Park to the University of New Mexico, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights in the wake of the Stonewall Rebellion.

Over the years, the event has grown significantly. By 1977, participation had increased to over 100 marchers, despite facing opposition and harassment. The 1980s and 1990s marked a period of formal organization and expansion, with the event moving to larger venues like the New Mexico State Fairgrounds to accommodate the growing number of attendees.

In 2001, during its 25th anniversary, Albuquerque Pride moved to Main Street on the Fairgrounds, attracting over 5,000 participants. By 2008, attendance had soared to over 30,000, establishing it as one of New Mexico’s most attended festivals and the state’s third-largest parade.

Today, Albuquerque Pridefest spans a week of themed events celebrating diverse aspects of the LGBTQ+ community, including Silverfest for the 55+ community, Kids Fest for families, She + Fest celebrating femininity, and a Pride Memorial Candlelight Vigil. The festivities culminate with the Albuquerque Pride Parade along Historic Route 66 and New Mexico Pride Fest at Balloon Fiesta Park, featuring music, food, and a nighttime balloon glow.
