Cluj Pride 2025

Cluj Pride, held annually in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, is a significant event celebrating LGBTQ+ rights and visibility in the Transylvania region. Established in 2017, it was the first pride event in the area and the second in Romania, following Bucharest Pride.

The inaugural festival took place from June 28 to July 1, 2017, culminating in a march that attracted around 1,000 participants. Despite initial resistance from local authorities, who rejected multiple permit requests, the event proceeded, marking a milestone for LGBTQ+ activism in Romania.

Organized by PRIDE Romania, along with partners such as Go Free and the Center for Action for Equality and Human Rights (ACTEDO), Cluj Pride has grown over the years. The 2019 edition spanned six days, featuring cultural and educational activities, and concluded with a march attended by approximately 3,000 people.

The event emphasizes the importance of visibility and equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community in a society where challenges persist. In 2021, the march commemorated the 20th anniversary of the repeal of Article 200, a law that criminalized homosexual relationships in Romania, highlighting the progress made and the ongoing fight for equality.

Cluj Pride continues to serve as a platform for advocacy, celebration, and solidarity, fostering a more inclusive environment in Cluj-Napoca and beyond.
