Baltimore Pride 2025

Baltimore Pride is one of the oldest pride celebrations in the United States, with its origins tracing back to 1975. The inaugural event was a modest gathering of activists in Charles Plaza, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights during a time when openly expressing one’s sexual orientation could lead to severe repercussions, including job loss.

Over the years, Baltimore Pride has evolved into a vibrant, city-wide celebration attracting over 35,000 participants annually. The festivities typically span a week in June, featuring more than 50 events, including the Pride Parade, Block Party, and Pride in the Park festival. The parade, stretching 11 blocks, showcases the city’s diversity and commitment to inclusivity.

The Pride Center of Maryland, formerly known as the Gay Community Center of Baltimore, has been instrumental in organizing these events. Founded in 1977 by Paulette Young and other activists, the center has been a cornerstone for the LGBTQ+ community, providing support services, advocacy, and a safe space for individuals to express their identities.

Throughout its history, Baltimore Pride has mirrored the broader LGBTQ+ rights movement, celebrating significant milestones such as the legalization of same-sex marriage in Maryland in 2012. The event not only serves as a celebration of love and diversity but also as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality and the importance of community solidarity.
