Munich Gay Pride CSD 2024: Parade, Accommodations, and Events

Munich Gay Pride, known locally as Christopher Street Day (CSD München), is an annual event celebrating LGBTQ+ pride and advocating for equal rights in Munich, Germany. The event commemorates the Stonewall Riots of June 1969 in New York’s Christopher Street, which marked a pivotal moment in the LGBTQ+ rights movement.

The first Munich Pride took place in 1980, making it one of Germany’s longest-running pride events. Over the years, it has grown significantly, attracting hundreds of thousands of participants and becoming a major highlight in Munich’s cultural calendar. The festivities typically span over two weeks, known as PrideWeeks, culminating in a vibrant parade and street festival.

In 2024, Munich Pride was held from June 8 to 23, under the motto “United in diversity – together against the right,” reflecting a strong stance against right-wing extremism and promoting inclusivity. The event featured a political parade with 210 registered groups, a two-day street festival around Marienplatz, and the traditional RathausClubbing party in the city hall. Despite challenges such as weather forecasts and security concerns, the event was peaceful and showcased the city’s commitment to diversity and acceptance.

Munich Pride continues to serve as a platform for the LGBTQ+ community to advocate for equal rights, celebrate diversity, and foster a sense of unity within the city and beyond.
