Pride Month 2026 ends today, and before we turn the page to summer, we’re taking a moment to look back at what stayed with us. From Athens Pride at Syntagma on June 13 to the Thessaloniki Pride parade by the seafront on June 20, and from the Stonewall anniversary to the upcoming WorldPride, we gathered 10 moments. Some are from June, some came earlier and paved the way.
If you want the big picture for our city’s Pride, the full guide to Thessaloniki Pride has the history, route, and practical details. And if you want to see how the month began last year around the world, read about Pride 2025 celebrations across three continents.
The road to Pride Month 2026
1. The Council of State decision on marriage and adoption
Earlier this year, the Council of State ruled that law 5089/2024 is constitutional; since February 2024, it has opened civil marriage and adoption to same-sex couples. The decision became known in March 2026 (according to reports, this is decision 392/2026).
Gaps remain, such as surrogacy, which is not open to male couples, and recognition issues for children born before the law. You’ll find the full picture in LGBTQ+ rights in Greece in 2026. Note: this is not legal advice — for your own case, speak with a lawyer. Last checked: June 30, 2026.
2. Family Equality Day, May 3
International Family Equality Day, on the first Sunday of May, carried extra weight this year after the Council of State decision. We wrote about Thessaloniki’s rainbow families and about how important it is for children to see their families recognized.
3. Eurovision in Vienna, May 16
The Eurovision final is the queerest TV night of the year. This year Bulgaria won with Dara and “Bangaranga,” while Akylas with “Ferto” brought Greece to 10th place. Everything we’re keeping is in Eurovision 2026: what we’re taking away from Vienna.
4. IDAHOBIT, May 17
International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia recalls the World Health Organization’s 1990 decision to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders. The Athens Pride festival also began on the same day. More in our feature on IDAHOBIT.

5. Athens Pride, June 13
On Saturday, June 13, Athens had its date at Syntagma, with events from midday and a parade at 19:00, under the theme “It's About You.” For many groups from Thessaloniki, it was the start of a June with two Pride events. If you traveled, our guide from Thessaloniki to Athens Pride 2026 may have helped.
6. Thessaloniki Pride week, June 15–20
The 14th Thessaloniki Pride brought a week of workshops, film screenings, discussions, and music. It’s the part of Pride you don’t see in parade photos, but it builds community: that’s where you meet people, learn, and talk.
7. “Break the Code”
This year’s Thessaloniki theme was an invitation to move beyond binary stereotypes, about gender, about relationships, about what we “should” be. It was one of those themes that stays with you after June is over. We broke it down in what “Break the Code” means.
8. The parade and the White Tower, June 20
At 18:30 on Saturday, the parade began along the seafront, and the day ended with the closing concert at the White Tower. What we’re keeping from the day and the night that followed is written in Thessaloniki Pride 2026: the parade and the night after.

9. Stonewall, June 28
On June 28, 1969, the uprising at the Stonewall Inn in New York began, and this year marks 57 years since that night. Every Pride Month is, in essence, an anniversary of it. Read why Pride began as an uprising.
10. Next stop: WorldPride Amsterdam
June ends, but the season doesn’t. From July 25 to August 8, Amsterdam hosts WorldPride, with the Canal Parade on August 1. More on the official WorldPride Amsterdam site and soon in our own guide from Thessaloniki.
What we’re taking from Pride Month 2026
If we had to say it in one sentence: this June was both a month of celebration and a reminder. We celebrated what has been won and remembered what is still missing. At Enola, where the first meeting for Thessaloniki Pride took place in the winter of 2011, we experience it up close every year.
Pride Month 2026 is ending, but visibility is not. Enola opens every night at 23:30, at Valaoritou 19, for anyone who wants to keep the June mood alive into July.
